Trade fair innovations 2017: School Articles, Stationery, Creative Design

Trade fair novelties for the Spielwarenmesse® 2017 in the School Articles, Stationery, Creative Design category: a large DIY selection of colouring books, materials for drawing, crocheting and knitting, handicraft supplies, plasticine and much more awaits you in Nuremberg at the world’s largest toy fair. Here is a foretaste of some of the new products to be released in 2017.

What once was considered the domain of children, is now used by adults for stress relief. "The trend towards writing, drawing and colouring", says Gerlinde Karg, Chairperson and CEO of the Creative Hobby Association (Verband Hobby-Kreativ e.V.), "will persist in 2017." Gerlinde Karg believes there are two reasons why creative design is experiencing a boom: the desire to express our individuality and the inclination to help children develop through creative assortments as a counterbalance to our increasingly digital world. Old traditions are being rediscovered as part of this. To achieve success, it is important that the story told with these is an inspiring one.

Beauty and creativity combined

Princess hairstyles

At the Frech Verlag publishing company, you can already see the next trend starting to roll out. Namely, beauty. "It’s time for a makeover!" announces the publishing house with its creativity set for creating princess hairstyles, while its handicraft creativity set with natural materials is meant to appeal more to boys aged 7 and over. That particular set can be used to create cute animals, chains or funny characters from chestnuts, other nuts, branches or tree bark in a jiffy. Demonstrating a new take on a classic (Hall 12.2/P-10).

Coppenrath Verlag publishing house is also focusing on beauty with its "For Girls Only" range, including a blusher brush, eyeshadow, manicure set and more (Hall 1/C-34).

For fans of detective stories, German publisher Kosmos Verlag offers "The three !!! beauty bag" (Die drei !!! Beauty-Bag) which guarantees stylish detective work. Without any sewing machine, children aged eight years and older can stitch their own vanity bag. The Advent calendar in the All-Rounder Box (Alles-Könner-Kiste) series also has the potential to become a highlight for Kosmos. Children aged eight and older can find 24 little gift bags with materials for play and crafts behind each little door (Hall 10.0/G-02).

Buki: nail salon kit
Buki: nail salon kit

Buki is presenting a nail salon kit in which the respective finger is held in place. Flawless drying of one of the 30 variants from which fashionistas can choose their style is also ensured (Hall 5/B-79).

Unpack, go

With the Create & Paint plaster figures from Ravensburger, children aged seven and older can turn their home into a small studio. All they need to do is mix the plaster, pour it into a mould and leave it to sit for one or two days. They can then use acrylic paints on their creation. The set contains one large and three small clay moulds, six paints, one brush and a small file (Hall 12.0/A-12, D-13).

You will be amazed by Color Wonder! Color Wonder markers from Crayola are initially clear. Only when children draw on the special Color Wonder paper does the selected colour appear almost magically between the drawing lines. Smudges of colour on the sofa are therefore a thing of the past (Hall 7/F-30).

Hamburg-based publisher Oetinger is competing with a new line of colourful products for children starting school and an exclusive selection of special stationery products (folder, shimmer pens, rhinestone stickers, etc.) for its successful Alea Aquarius bestseller range. Their "Krickel-Krakel" creative products have held some of the greatest appeal for children who love colouring for years. Oetinger is now going a step further with a "My very first" strategy. Children aged two and older can now enjoy a "Krickel-Krakel" offering: "Krickelchen und Krakelchen", boasting extra-thick pages, is a colouring book with drawings for infants (Hall 10.0/F-13).

The Moses Verlag publishing company is promising many boredom-busting ideas and lots to get children even more excited (Hall 10.0/H-04a). Two ideas in particular stand out: the "Wild Animals" (Wilde Tiere) book of masks features 12 masks that can be made up and painted (ideal for any children’s birthday) and "Yoga for Children" (Yoga für Kinder), which fosters children’s health, powers of concentration and mobility – 50 tips to help children aged eight years and older slow things down, in line with the "Body & Mind" 2017 toy trend.
