The European Commission has updated the list of harmonised standards that can be used to show presumed conformity to the Toy Safety Directive.
EN71-3:2019 will replace EN 71–3:2013 + A3:2018 and includes changes in testing methodology. However, the main change introduces a lower limit for Chromium VI from 0.2 mg/kg to 0.053 mg/kg on category 3 components – coatings and plastics, for example.
For a period of time both versions of the EN71-3 standard can still be used, but from 15th April 2020 only EN71-3:2019 should be referenced.
