The singer-songwriter and mindfulness advocate, Sophie Ellis-Bextor has partnered with the children’s audio platform, Yoto and its Yoto Player to launch a nationwide competition to bring Mindfulness Corners to 200 schools in the UK.
The launch of the campaign follows recent research into the impact of Covid-19 on school children, finding that over half of parents have seen a change for the worse in the mood of their kids over the course of the country’s lockdowns.
Since schools have reopened, children have experienced a mix of excitement at seeing their friends once again, but also trepidation at being back in the classroom and on the playground.
Nearly nine in 10 (89%) parents surveyed by Yoto said they that they would like their child to have access to mindfulness tools and techniques. To help manage the resulting emotions and mental health of the UK’s school children, Yoto has pledged to help bring mindfulness and calm to the younger generations by gifting a package of a Yoto Player and mindfulness cards to schools across the UK.
The Mindfulness Corners are designed to help children stay calm and relaxed throughout the day, while helping them to become adept at dealing with their emotions.
Schools and parents can enter the competition to win a Mindfulness Corner for their chosen school from July 6th until August 20th, when 200 winners will be selected by an independent judge.
Four special Gold Prize winners, hand-picked by competition judge Sophie Ellis-Bextor, will also receive a year’s supply of the latest Yoto cards. All the final winners will be announced during the week of September 13th.
