Wooden Toys, Toys made from natural materials

Wooden toys are considered some of the most important elements for early childhood development. Spielwarenmesse® not only showcases classic wooden toys but also represents the current trends such as products out of cardboard and cork. Brands such as Djeco, HaPe, Janod, PlanToys as well as startups present themselves and their products by using design, stable and sustainable materials as well as educational concepts.

“As an SME, we‘re not in a position to be on the lookout for new products everywhere and at all times. Because of this, events such as the Spielwarenmesse present a special opportunity for us as they allow us to meet new vendors and get ideas for our range in a short space of time.”
Jean-François Vezia, President, Le Bonhomme de Bois, visitor from France
“We love meeting old and new customers from all over the world. And they are the best customers. The quality is very consistent, here are both retailers big and small.”
Brandon Straub, Co-Founder, Tegu, exhibitor from the USA

Wooden toys are among the oldest established in the industry. With wood being a renewable raw material and given the many versatile ways in which it can be processed and combined (lignin, fasal, bambus), toys made of wood are generally considered highly sustainable and are perceived to have high educational value. These aspects are of particular importance to parents in western countries. Compared with toys made of other materials, such as plastic and cloth, toys made of wood only account for a low (production) share of the overall market. But customers are increasingly interested in natural materials and processing, with wooden toys having a notable advantage in the purchase decision.

The toy industry boasts many small craft operations as well as big players when it comes to wood. Manufacturers from Thailand, China, Australia and the US are as well represented in this market as traditional European companies.
