Winners of the ToyAward 2012 start the International Toy Fair in a jubilant mood

The ToyAward at the Spielwarenmesse 2012.

  • Combination of play ideas creates amazing added play value in 2012

You have to play before you can win! This also applies at the Spielwarenmesse International Toy Fair Nürnberg. Four players at the fair from 1–6 February 2012 start the event as winners. Spielwarenmesse eG presented them with the ToyAward 2012 at the opening ceremony. The coveted prize rewards outstanding innovations in the toy industry. The jury of international toy experts placed the following products right at the top of the winners’ rostrum in their respective category:

Category Baby&Infant (0-2 years): Mini Micro with Seat/ Micro Mobility Systems Ltd.
The Mini Micro grows as its owner gets bigger. Even one-year-olds can take their first ride on these kids’ rollers, which can be converted to a “real” roller later on. The roller in cool Micro design is controlled by the child shifting its weight, which also develops the child’s motoric and sense of balance.

Category PreSchool (3-5 years): Appmates/ Spin Master International S.à.r.l.
This combination of virtual game and a real toy car is new: Appmates from Spin Master International is downloaded from the app store to the iPad free of charge, then the would-be racing driver places a car from Disney’s Cars cult series on the touch screen and the journey can begin. Appmates develops the child’s dexterity and also its ability to handle the latest technology.

Category SchoolKids (6-10 years): LEGO Friends Dream House / LEGO GmbH
LEGO has something that school kids will like with its Friends Dream House designed specially for girls. This pink dream house enables them to slip into the world of popular role-plays. With lovingly designed details and comprehensive assembly instructions, LEGO has succeeded in creating a sophisticated construction toy specially for girls between six and ten years.

Category Teenager&Family (11 years or older): Talat/ Huch! & Friends Hutter Trade GmbH
Talat stands for the Arabic numeral three and is geared completely to the motto of this magic number. Up to three players manoeuvre their pieces – triangular, square and hexagonal towers in three sizes – over a multidimensional three-section board with the aim of beating their opponents’ towers. Besides strategy, the board game also demands good geometric thinking and its fine presentation is convincing.

Every year, the ToyAward is presented to new products at the International Toy Fair whose special characteristics stand out from the other products. They are distinguished by their play idea, their outstanding concept and their creative design. The jury also judges the material properties and safety aspects. The four categories of the ToyAward are based on target groups: Baby&Infant, PreSchool, SchoolKids, and Teenager&Family. The award provides guidance for consumers and the trade in view of the great variety of new products. Until 6 February 2012, all visitors have the opportunity to choose their personal favourite as “Traders’Favourite” from the winners of the ToyAward. This award will be announced at the closing press conference and the winner will receive prize money of 20,000 euros.
