Licensed products are enjoying great popularity among children and adults. Toys linked with in-demand licensing themes had the largest share of percentage growth in 2015. And many proven and new characters will again enliven the market this year, benefiting from the success of upcoming TV and cinema productions in particular. Global licensees and licensors will offer a broad overview at the Spielwarenmesse, where licensed articles can be found in all product groups, and increasingly so.
Top-class international speakers will tackle the topic and provide informative insights into licences on Thursday, 28 January, in the Toy Business Forum in Hall 3A. From 1:00 p.m., Filipe Oliveira, a senior analyst with Euromonitor International in London, will demonstrate where there are still opportunities in his presentation entitled, “Untapped licensing markets: what opportunities lie ahead in toys and games?”. General information on the upward trend in the licensing business and its development will be provided between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. by Gustavo Antonioni (Saban Brands, London, UK), Paul Bufton (Warner Bros. Consumer Products, London, UK), Cristian Cabero (Viacom International Media Networks, Miami, USA) and Steven Ekstract (Advanstar Communications Inc., New York, USA). Retailers can find more
details on the themes and speakers online at www.spielwarenmesse.de/en/toybusinessforum.
You are guaranteed an experience in the Disney Lounge. Open to all, it is incorporated into the Fashionable and Trendy Articles product group at Entrance Mitte. There will be some great photo opportunities there, with the focus this time on the “Frozen”, “Disney Princesses”, “Marvel”, “Cars” and “Star Wars” themes. If your mobile phone battery dies, you can recharge at the charging station. There will also be a PlayStation 4 console for playing “Disney Infinity”. Disney's fantasy worlds will invite you to unwind and should serve as a good gathering place for discussions.
Trade visitors can use the LicenseGuide on the Spielwarenmesse website to discover the themes around which exhibitors are offering products. This online service is based on companies providing the information themselves, at no cost, and makes it easier for retailers to find the right products. To plan your sales range in advance, simply enter the desired licence, company or product group in the designated fields and you will have the details: www.spielwarenmesse.de/en/licenseguide/.
Anyone who just cannot get enough in the area of licences and would like to see the characters of the moment in action should visit the TOON WALK in Nuremberg’s pedestrian zone on the Saturday of the trade fair, 30 January. This is all part of the ToyCity programme. The colourful parade of XXL comic figures and mascots will start in Pfannenschmiedsgasse at 1:00 p.m. This will not only be a highlight for those visiting the trade fair, but also fans of licensed products and families from Nuremberg and the region.
