Exhibitors at the Spielwarenmesse® donate more than 8,500 toys to charity

  • Spielwarenmesse eG organises donation campaign for local projects and SOS Children’s Villages.
  • On 16 March a portion of the donations was presented to the “Children’s Day Centre” at the SOS Children’s Village in Nuremberg

As the Spielwarenmesse® 2016 drew to a close, more than 800 exhibitors donated around 8,500 exhibits to charity. The toys are being given not only to local institutions, such as the Leo Club in nearby Zirndorf and the children’s cancer charity “Elterninitiative krebskranker Kinder e.V.”, but also to SOS Children’s Villages across Germany. The Spielwarenmesse® has been organising this campaign for almost 40 years. Ernst Kick, CEO of Spielwarenmesse eG: “It’s important both to us and our exhibitors that our trade fair can be of direct benefit to charities and social services providers. This campaign brings much joy to these children and allows them to share in our enthusiasm for the world of play.”

This year, the generous donations will be given to six local institutions and initiatives. The new toys will bring pleasure to children at nursery schools, clubs, foundations and children’s charities. The “Children’s Day Care Centre” at the SOS Children’s Village in the Schweinau district of Nuremberg is just one of the beneficiaries. This state-funded Centre for children from six to twelve years of age has 25 places. The Centre provides comprehensive academic support whilst its multi-cultural approach promotes a sense of togetherness and tolerance among children from a wide range of cultural backgrounds.
The donations were presented to the “Children’s Day Care Centre” on 16 March 2016. “The children are over the moon. We’d like to thank all the exhibitors and the whole team at Spielwarenmesse eG for their overwhelming support,” says Bärbel Bebensee, Head of the SOS Children’s Village in Nuremberg, continuing, “This campaign will enable us to equip our Centre  with new and high-quality toys, allowing our children to play to their heart’s content.”  It’s not just youngsters in and around Nuremberg who can look forward to receiving new toys. Many of the donations have been distributed to more than 30 SOS Children’s Villages throughout Germany.

Photos of the presentation are available from our website at www.spielwarenmesse.de/en/photos under the heading “Donations”.
