Spielwarenmesse announces trends for 2017: Body and Mind, Girl Power and Swap & Collect

  • TrendGallery in Hall 3A showcases the trends for 2017 at the Spielwarenmesse in Nuremberg from 1 to 6 February 2017

Trade buyers at the next Spielwarenmesse will be on the hunt for the most successful trend in 2017. Given that 75,000 new products will be unveiled in Nuremberg from 1 to 6 February, this is no easy task for retailers and traders. This is why the Spielwarenmesse’s ten-member TrendCommittee has once again tracked down the latest trends from all over the world, identifying the following three emerging tendencies: “Body and Mind“, “Girl Power” and “Swap & Collect”. During the Spielwarenmesse, the TrendGallery in Hall 3A brings these trends to life, whilst providing insights into the kind of products they encompass.

Body and Mind – bringing body and spirit into balance

Many children lead busy lives that are ruled by the clock and governed by school and extra-curricular activities. This can often give rise to stress. The trend “Body and Mind” is all about bringing body and spirit into balance. This theme spotlights products that encourage the physical and mental well-being of children through play and, in conjunction with fitness and physical activity, help children enjoy a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

Girl Power – Supporting the interests of girls

As they go through life, girls should be instilled with the strength, confidence and independence to pursue their interests and goals. More and more toys are encouraging them to believe in their dreams. These products endow girls with the “tools” they need to test themselves and to pave their way to the profession of their choice.

Swap & Collect – reviving the collecting craze

“Collecting” is a hobby that is loved by young and old. Closely entwined with the idea of trading, it is a pastime that also promotes social skills. After all, it takes clever negotiations to clinch the missing parts to a collection. Collecting and trading is a pleasurable and lasting hobby that has the potential to spring new surprises on collectors at any time. Licences create additional incentives for this classic theme.

Discovering new products in the TrendGallery

The TrendGallery in Hall 3A is like a shop window filled with the trends for 2017. Covering an area of around 1,000 m2, this special show highlights the products that reflect the latest trends and the exhibitors’ innovations. The TrendGallery also features the winners of the ToyAwards. Specialist presentations at the Toy Business Forum provide visitors with a wealth of expertise and valuable information. Industry experts explain, for example, how they identify trends and showcase them to maximum effect in their stores. TrendCommittee members Reyne Rice (Journalist and Trend Expert, USA) and Dr. Maria Costa (Market Researcher, Toy Research Institute, Spain) give insights into the world of trend research. The other experts include:
