Registration for the ToyAwards by the Spielwarenmesse opens soon

  • Logo for the innovation award is updated
  • Awards to be presented at the Opening Ceremony on 30 January 2018

Every year, the exhibitors at the Spielwarenmesse unveil around 100,000 innovations and new products. Particularly outstanding ideas are rewarded with the highly coveted ToyAwards, presented by Spielwarenmesse eG. In 2018, the accolades will be awarded for the 15th time. To mark the occasion, the ToyAward logo has been updated, appearing in a new, fresh look. For a chance to win the renowned distinction, companies exhibiting at the Spielwarenmesse can enter their products from 1 September 2017. Exhibitors can register up to three products for the four age-specific categories Baby&Infant (0-3 years), PreSchool (3-6 years), SchoolKids (6-10 years) and Teenager&Adults (from 10 years). Registrations should be made online at www.toyaward.com and are completely free of charge. The closing date for entries is 22 December 2017. The new products must be submitted to Spielwarenmesse eG by 31 December at the latest.

Evaluation criteria
In the run-up to the Spielwarenmesse, a jury of experts, comprising international sales agents, educators, market researchers and a toy safety expert, choose three products in each of the four categories. They judge the entries based on the criteria fun factor, originality, safety, potential at retail, workmanship & quality, and accessibility of the product concept. The twelve nominees for the ToyAwards will be announced at the Main Press Conference marking the 69th Spielwarenmesse on 25 January 2018. In keeping with tradition, the Awards will be presented during the Opening Ceremony on
30 January 2018.

Record number of entries for the 2017 ToyAwards

LEGO GmbH clinched first place in the SchoolKids category with its LEGO BOOST. CEO Frédéric Lehmann was delighted with the title: “After receiving several accolades for this product, we’re delighted that our first German award is the coveted ToyAward from the Spielwarenmesse.” The Baby&Infant segment was won by Tegu and its Tegu BEANS & TUMTUM Magnetic Wooden Block Set, whereas Hape International was rewarded for its Mighty Mountain Mine in the PreSchool category.
