Unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show in September 1963 as the Porsche
901, this car was the long awaited successor of the Porsche 356, the
German brand’s first series production sports car. However, French
carmaker Peugeot claimed a patent on all three-digit car names with a
zero in the middle and objected to the designation “901”. This led to a
swift change of number and the fabled “911” was born. A model
number that would soon have a magical effect on the motor world and
all sports car enthusiasts.
To commemorate the Porsche 911 S Coupé, also known as the F model
among Porsche enthusiasts, built in 1973, Schuco has come up with two
highly detailed collectibles on the large scale of 1:18 in the original
Porsche colours “gold-metallic” and “black”. Both models of this classic
coupé, like the prototype car, have fully functional suspension, working
steering and finely detailed replicas of the legendary Fuchs rims.
Further functions, such as the opening and closing doors, the moving
boot lid and the lift-up bonnet, make this model a real treat for all
sports car and Porsche fans. The engine compartment, for example,
contains a wonderful miniature version of the air-cooled 2.4-litre, 6-
cylinder boxer engine, which in its original form produced a very
impressive 190 hp and made the Porsche 911 S one of the fastest sports
cars of its age with a top speed of 230 kilometres per hour.
The interior of the miniature Porsche, which is also very finely detailed,
is modelled on the large prototype vehicle and features numerous
details, such as the five 911-typical round instruments with the orange
needles, which are also typical of the 911.
The two Schuco models of the Porsche 911 S Coupé are each limited to
911 copies worldwide and, just like their big brothers, are a sports car
legend in miniature.
