  • Lifestyle and trend articles in their own exhibition area for the first time
  • Trends 2015: Little Scientists, Beyond Reality and Express Yourself
  • PowerLounge shows model building potential for the toy trade

Spielwarenmesse provides retailers and buyers with a head start for the upcoming season. At Nuremberg 2,857 exhibitors display what the international toy market holds in store for 2015. This year the leading trade fair for toys, hobbies and leisure has excelled itself with the widest offering from 67 countries ever to be seen in Nuremberg. Manufacturers of accessories, playroom furniture and interior design present their products in a separate area of their own in the Centre Foyer for the first time. The TrendGallery in Hall 3A shows international hits and ToyAward nominees and winners. The fair team of Spielwarenmesse eG is expecting around 75,000 trade visitors from more than 100 countries from 28.01.-02.02.2015.

The number of lifestyle and trend articles is growing in the toy industry. They give toy retailers the opportunity to add and vary on-trend accents in their assortments, catering to modern customers who want to be thrilled. Spielwarenmesse taps this potential for buyers and retailers. The fair organisers have now designated a separate exhibition area for the lifestyle and trend article product group introduced in 2014. In the Centre Foyer 50 manufacturers display accessories and decorative articles, designer toys, stationery, fashion and licensed articles. Over the entire exhibition centre around 250 exhibitors also have offerings in this product group in their portfolios.

The major international trends in the toy industry scouted by the Spielwarenmesse international TrendCommittee are on show in the TrendGallery in Hall 3A. The nine trend scouts found out that Little Scientists are gaining ground. Toys introduce young explorers to STEM subjects, science, technology, engineering and maths. They foster childlike curiosity and explain the world in play. The second trend spotted by the TrendCommittee is new approaches to handicrafts which they coined Express Yourself. Small and older children love to express their personalities by making things themselves or enhancing accessories and everyday items with a personal touch. The third trend, Beyond Reality takes technology for small and older children to the next level. Toys can be controlled by body movement or voice recognition, accessories or clothes equipped with advanced technology, or children design their own toys and produce them at home on a 3D printer. Many other examples of the three trends can be found all over the exhibition centre in the eleven product groups. Background information on the trends and the latest marketing insights is additionally supplied in the Toy Business Forum in the TrendGallery at presentations held daily from 28.01. - 01.02.2015 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. followed by trend talks.

Directly adjacent to the TrendGallery companies demonstrate their potential for innovation. In the New Exhibitor Centre 54 new manufacturers from 25 countries are presenting their toys in Nuremberg for the first time. Next door, the communal Young Innovative Companies pavilion completes the creative pool in Hall 3A. The Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) is sponsoring fair participation of 25 German companies to establish business contacts abroad.

Toy retailers on the look-out for ideas for their ranges can find them in Hall 7 and 7A in the model building and hobbies product group. Increasingly, models are available boxed ready for play. Controls are becoming more user-friendly, even for inexperienced pilots, or are equipped with safety functions, making RC models an interesting option for the toy trade. They minimise any need for advice and boost sales. In the PowerLounge in Hall 7A Revell/Hobbico, Multiplex, Aero Naut and Horizon present hobby products suitable as starter items for retailers. At the same time fair visitors can recharge their own batteries in the PowerLounge café and also their mobiles at the charger point.

The manufacturers in the model train set and accessories product group offer new playing incentives for young enthusiasts. They add clever playing functions to train sets. Small-series manufacturers enhance the accessories offering for train sets in a communal area in Hall 4A. The following manufacturers are taking part: Anja Bange Modellbau, Dietz Elektronik GmbH & Co. KG, ETS PRAHA spol. s.r.o., Gabor Modelle E. Haselberger, Herkat Modellbahn-Zubehör, HLS Berg GmbH & Co. KG, Linie 8 GmbH, REGNER Dampf- und Eisenbahntechnik, rétro87, SAI Collections.

The young designers in the Spielwarenmesse ToyDesign 2020 Talent Contest invested a lot of energy and creativity in the project. 26 students from Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design, Halle and the Department of Design, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences designed toys for the 0-3 year olds of 2020. All works are on display in the ToyDesign 2020 exhibition in Passage 3A/4A throughout the fair. The contest and exhibition was initiated and sponsored by the Wooden Toys Group of the German Toy Industry Association and staged by Spielwarenmesse eG. The award ceremony for the three winners takes place on 28.01.2015 at 11.30 a.m. in Passage 3A/4A.

Spielwarenmesse is an infinite fount of ideas for making children's dreams come true for all retailers and buyers in the upcoming business year of 2015. For one thing is sure, with a choice of offerings from 2,857 companies, everyone will find something to suit their taste.
