The model world wants to retake the playroom. Model railway manufacturers are augmenting their lines with play ideas and the suppliers of model construction products inspire youngsters with easy controls and kid-oriented design. Whether through technological innovations or digital accessories, the companies are pulling out all the stops and infecting children and young people alike with technical model world fever. The manufacturers will be putting their whole range of models on display in Halls 4A, 7 and 7A at the Spielwarenmesse from 27 January to 1 February 2016. So that the model construction industry can display all its facets at the Spielwarenmesse, the 2016 fair team is again organizing a collective stand for small volume manufacturers: nine companies have already registered.
At a reasonable price, the specialised companies can book an all-in-one package that affords them the maximum in visibility at a minimum cost. AB Modell’s Michael Bange confirms that this idea goes over well with the companies: “Being part of the special area has really paid off for us, particularly in terms of media coverage. You will see us back in 2016 at the Spielwarenmesse’s special area for small volume manufacturers.“ Arnold Gabor sees the benefits of the collective stand for trade visitors. He will be there representing his company, Gabor Modelle Ellen Haselberger: “The collective stand of the small volume manufacturers is a treasure trove, especially for retailers. That is where you find the unusual and new products that you won’t find anywhere else.”

Not only specialist toy retailers, but hobby dealer specialists as well get their money’s worth. This is confirmed by the dealers themselves. They know to appreciate the extensive array of new products and the numerous business partners that they encounter at the Spielwarenmesse. And Michael Werning, Managing Director of MW-Modell Exklusive Modelleisenbahnen, sees it that way too: “Under the roof of Hall 4A, the Spielwarenmesse brings together all the important model railway suppliers worldwide. For me, this is a unique opportunity to cultivate the relationships I already have, forge new ones, and think outside the box.” Hall 4A is where the dealers see just how many different ideas the manufacturers put into play to convey the enduring fascination of model trains, a fascination that knows no generational bounds. As far as Florian Sieber, CEO of Märklin is concerned, the groundwork has already been laid: “We have a great product which already meets the requirements for interplay between young and old.”
The same is true for model construction. Thanks to the growing licensing business, model construction also appeals to younger kids. The primary sales driver here is Star Wars, the most successful cross-generational license of all times. Among all the model aircraft, the ones that most excites young and experienced generations alike are the multicopters. At the same time, these intriguing flying objects are attracting many newcomers to the model construction industry. Dré de Man, Editor-in-Chief of Aachen Elektor-Verlag GmbH’s 2015/2016 special multicopter edition has this to say: "Multicopters are booming. This year alone, three times more will be sold than in 2014. One of the impressive things about multicopters is their technology that simply wasn’t there ten years ago (or was unaffordable).” The boom is showing no signs of flagging, and this will be borne out at Spielwarenmesse 2016. Andrzej Małysz, owner of Polish company APM Model s.c, is already looking forward to his trade fair visit: “At Spielwarenmesse, we get to know about trends and innovations in the model construction segment. I come every year to meet our business partners and competitors. This is very important for us, since making direct contacts promotes cooperation.” Hans Ulrich Remfert, Managing Director of Revell GmbH, also relies on the trade fair for his business success. “Nationally and internationally, the Spielwarenmesse offers a customer spectrum that is broader than at any other trade fair. This gives you a comprehensive overview of the entire industry.” And trade visitors who feel the need for more oomph in their overview can tank up energy for themselves and their mobile devices in Hall 7A’s PowerLounge. That is also where they can find presentations on “Toys in the model construction sector,” places to rest their feet, catering and recharge stations. The retailers take the energy boost with them to their next meeting. Armed with the many innovations at the Spielwarenmesse, they can streamline their timetables or flight paths for their business success in 2016.
