Mittwoch bis Sonntag!
31. Jan - 4. Feb 2018
Taking place in Hall 3A on the first five days of the Spielwarenmesse, the Toy Business Forum has a varied programme in store for trade buyers. Be it the latest trends in retailing, smart product range strategies or promising business ideas – home-grown and international trend experts will be holding informative presentations on current market developments from 1st to 5th February 2017, starting daily at 1 pm and ending at 3 pm. Licensing and sales coaching will take centre stage as two of the main highlights of this year’s series.
Future trends in retailing
The Toy Business Forum features free and compact presentations that are devoted to a specific topic each day that relates to the everyday running of a retail business. On the first day of the fair, international speakers will look at tomorrow’s retailing trends, each broaching the topic from a different angle. For example, Maria Costa, Head of the Children’s Research Department at the Technological Institute for Children's Products & Leisure (AIJU) in Valencia, will shed light on the needs of young children. By contrast, Reyne Rice, an expert from New York, will focus on the latest developments on the toy market. Both speakers will take it in turns to end each daily session with a look at the three trends for 2017: “Body and Mind”, “Girl Power” und “Swap & Collect”.
Licensing in the spotlight
On Thursday 2nd February, the presentations will revolve around Licensing. Global findings will be revealed, among others, by experts from the Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA). President and CEO Charles Riotto from New York will explain how licences generate demand all over the world. A four-strong panel led by Peter Hollo of LIMA Germany, will discuss “How licensing can drive your sales!”. This will be followed by specialists from the USA and the UK revealing the latest licensing trends in the entertainment field. This session will be presented by Steven Ekstract, publisher of License! Global.
Smart product range strategies
On the Friday, trade buyers will have the opportunity to look at the bigger picture. Five varied presentations will illustrate from a marketing, consultancy and manufacturing perspective the kind of ranges that can generate additional sales and put the finishing touches to a successful retail business concept. Hermann Hutter, who runs the traditional Ulm-based department store Abt, will talk from his own experience. He will show retailers how to attract extra footfall by offering additional products such as books and giftware and what points they should bear in mind when expanding their product ranges.
Tips for the whole sales team
A day later, sales staff at the Toy Business Forum will learn how to deal professionally with customers from all walks of life. During the “Toy Business Academy”, Jörg Winter will provide assistance in “Getting your sales in shape”. The entertaining expert will cover a wide range of topics in just one afternoon. In eight modules, each lasting around 15 minutes, he will present a wealth of background information and practical tips. He will describe, for example, how retailers can present themselves more convincingly and respond appropriately to key customer groups.
New successful ideas relating to the future of retailing will bring the Toy Business Forum to a close on the Sunday. Covering everything from online advertising to attracting new customers and creating a successful retail chain, the spectrum of topics is broad and varied. A panel discussion entitled “Retail 4.0: Facing up to the challenges – actively shaping the future” will feature engaging participants from Germany’s retail landscape.
The presentations are all simultaneously interpreted into English or German. The full programme of events is also available at www.spielwarenmesse.de/en/toybusinessforum. This site also features the Spielwarenmesse’s YouTube channel www.youtube.com/spielwarenmesse where last year’s presentations can be viewed as webcasts.
