International Toy Fair Nürnberg redesigns new product prize ToyAward

Traders and buyers are eagerly looking forward to the new products that will be presented at the Spielwarenmesse International Toy Fair Nürnberg from
3–8 February 2011. A jury chooses particularly outstanding products for the ToyAward. Spielwarenmesse eG has now improved the concept of its new product prize, which will be presented in 2011 for the eighth time. With an updated logo and categories for specific target groups, the ToyAward is now more orientated to end consumers. In addition, a new two-stage selection process incorporates consumer-relevant and pedagogical aspects and the trade visitors choose a main winner during the International Toy Fair. In this way, Spielwarenmesse eG gives toy traders and consumers clear guidance on the latest high-quality toy innovations.

Award presented in five categories for specific target groups
The new categories of the ToyAward are clearly based on age groups for the benefit of consumers, traders and manufacturers. Spielwarenmesse eG now concentrates on the following five categories:
• Baby&Infant
• PreSchool
• SchoolKids
• Teenager&Family
• SpecialAward: GreenToys (annually changing topic)
The SpecialAward takes up a topical subject each year. At the International Toy Fair 2011, this is the key theme of Toys go green and the award will be presented to toys that particularly stand out for sustainability during manufacture or promote children’s environmental awareness.

Products entered undergo a two-stage selection process
With the two-stage selection process starting in 2011, the members of the two juries combine more aspects for selecting the winners. Both teams of experts check the entries for play fun, creativity and comprehensibility of the product concept, toy safety and material properties. The composition of the jury for the first selection phase changes every year. These jury members have the demanding task of judging the host of entries and selecting products for the final round based on trade, consumer and pedagogical aspects. The jury for the second phase of selection comprises trade-orientated, international toy professionals with an annually changing guest of honour. It nominates three products per category from the favourites chosen in the preliminary round of judging. These products nominated for the ToyAward are presented at the main press conference a week before the start of the fair. The ToyAward is presented to the winning product from each of the five categories at the opening ceremony the evening before the fair.

Visitors choose main winner during the fair
In future, one product will be chosen as the main winner of the ToyAward. All visitors can vote for their favourite among the five winners of the ToyAward in the InnovationCenter in hall 4 during the fair. The main winner will be announced at the closing press conference and receive prize money of 20,000 euros for further marketing measures. In addition, Spielwarenmesse eG will support the positioning of all winning toys for the whole year. Specially assembled sales promotion packages make it easier for toy traders to attract the attention of end consumers to the ToyAward products and specifically promote sales of them in their own shops.

At www.toy-award.de, exhibitors and visitors can obtain useful background information about the new product award. From the beginning of February the website presents the nominated products and the jury’s reasons why the winning products have got what it takes to succeed. This improved concept from Spielwarenmesse eG provides a broader basis for the ToyAward and increases its appeal for the whole toy sector. Exhibitors at the International Toy Fair 2011 can enter max. three products for the ToyAward free of charge until 20 December 2011.
