Chinese e-commerce expands globally for “Double 12“ shopping festival

We know about Alibaba’s Singles Day shopping festival on Nov 11th but have you heard of the 12.12 sales event on Dec 12? A month and a day after Singles Day, the 24-hour 12.12 sale is catered for C2C Taobao Marketplace’s smaller e-tailers, who have difficulty competing against deep-pocketed major brands that sell on Tmall, a B2C site, during Singles Day.

And it’s not just in China: international stores from various countries including Taiwan, Australia, Thailand, Korea & and Japan have jumped on the shopping bandwagon. Last year, Double 12 generated sales from more than 49 million Alipay users with 300,000 overseas shoppers& helped to connect 1.5 million merchants to 110 million shoppers.
