Ravensburger Wins Legal Battle: Da Vinci’s “Vitruvian Man” Puzzle Can Continue Sales Outside Italy
German game and puzzle maker Ravensburger has won a legal dispute against the Italian state, allowing it to continue selling puzzles featuring Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic “Vitruvian Man” artwork worldwide, except in Italy. The Stuttgart Higher Regional Court ruled that Italian cultural heritage law does not apply beyond Italy’s borders, confirming that Ravensburger can market the puzzle internationally. The case centered on whether Italy could enforce licensing requirements for the famous Renaissance drawing outside its territory. The decision is not yet final, as Italy may still appeal to Germany’s Federal Court of Justice.
