20 years of Blue Ocean: The superlatives
The current CEO, Sigrun Kaiser, founded the publishing house in July 2005 with two partners. In 2014, the Burda Group acquired a majority stake in Blue Ocean Entertainment AG, initially 50.1 per cent. The group now owns 90 per cent of the shares.
The best-selling magazines
With 21.5 million copies sold in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Prinzessin Lillifee (since 2006) ranks first in Blue Ocean's internal sales ranking, followed by Lego Ninjago (since 2015) with 17.6 million copies. Only the main German-language magazines were counted here. In addition, international editions, special editions and even spin-offs are published. With Prinzessin Lillifee Bastelzauber (3.4 million copies) and Prinzessin Lillifee Zauberwelt (6.8 million copies), well over 31 million Prinzessin Lillifee magazines have been sold. There are comics, the Legacy series and special editions for Lego Ninjago. Also very successful are: Lego City (8.4 million copies sold), Lego Star Wars (7.1 million), Winx Club (6.8 million), Playmobil and Pferd&Co with 5.8 million copies sold each, and Frag doch mal die Maus (5.7 million).
The most frequently purchased collectible
By far the most frequently sold collectible product is the Lego Ninjago Trading Card Game. After ten series, more than 450 million trading cards have been purchased internationally.
The best-selling edition
With 243,560 copies sold, the 25th edition of Lego Ninjago from 2017 is the most successful single edition.

The Blue Ocean Group is the market leader for children's magazines in Europe and consists of seven subsidiaries: Stuttgart, Madrid and Lisbon (Blue Ocean Iberia), Wroclaw in Poland, Kehl near Strasbourg, and Arezzo and Turin in Italy.

Blue Ocean's market share
Blue Ocean's market share in the retail sector supplied by Grosso was 55.7 percent of sales in the children's magazine segment (Ehastra Group 10) in 2024. The sales share was 55.3 percent. This means that more Blue Ocean children's magazines are sold at newsstands than all competitors combined. Of the 30 IVW-audited children's magazines with the highest single sales in German-speaking countries, 20 are from Blue Ocean (IVW II/2025).
