70% of Shein and Temu products violate safety standards
Testachats, together with its German and Danish partner organizations, conducted an investigation of Chinese online stores—with shocking results.
Nearly seven out of ten products purchased by the consumer association Testachats from Shein and Temu violate European safety regulations.
112 products: at least one violation
A total of 162 items were examined, divided into three categories: toys for small children, USB chargers, and necklaces. The products, all of which were sold by third-party vendors on the platforms, were subjected to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and labeling tests. 112 of them had at least one violation and are therefore not legally allowed to be sold in Europe.
All toys purchased on Shein and 26 of the 27 toys purchased on Temu had one or more defects, including dangerous shapes, toxic substances, or small removable parts that could pose a choking hazard. About 60 percent of the toys posed a medium to high risk.
