Barbie Celebrates International Women’s Day With global Barbie Dream Team
Mattel announced that Barbie is marking International Women’s Day with a month-long celebration, including the launch of its first-ever Barbie Dream Team honoring women who led the way in their industries with one-of-a-kind dolls made in their likeness, special Barbie Dream Days programming, and the debut of Barbie Dream Fest, a multi-day fan experience.
Barbie knows that seeing is believing, and that access to accomplished female role models can expand what girls imagine for themselves. Since Barbie debuted in 1959, the brand has spotlighted more than 100 women across industries and communities who have driven meaningful change. Through these stories, Barbie continues to increase representation and broaden what’s possible for the next generation.
This year’s global Barbie Dream Team honors women who were among the first in their fields, including:
- Serena Williams (Global): Tennis Legend with 23 Grand Slam singles titles, entrepreneur, and global icon.
- Kellie Gerardi (United States): Research astronaut and payload specialist.
- Regina SirventAlvarado (Mexico): Professional race car driver and one of the most prominent figures in motorsport in Mexico.
- Chloe Kelly (United Kingdom): Professional footballer and a defining face of modern women’s football.
- Helene Fischer (Germany): One of Germany’s most famous and influential contemporary pop artists.
- Zoja Skubis (Poland): Youngest Polish woman to summit Manaslu (8,163 m) and Mount Everest (8,849 m).
- Stephanie Gilmore (Australia): Professional surfer and the first woman to achieve eight World Surf League (WSL) World Championship Titles.
- Smriti Mandhana (India): The first Indian woman cricketer to score a century in all three formats (T20, Test and ODI).
“Barbie has always championed the belief that girls can be anything. From astronauts to CEOs, Barbie has broken barriers and redefined what’s possible – igniting imagination and inspiring generations of girls to dream without limits,” said Nathan Baynard, Vice President and Head of Barbie, Mattel. “This International Women’s Day, we’re proud to build on that legacy with the launch of our Barbie Dream Team, celebrating an extraordinary group of global trailblazers who are paving the way for the next generation. By honoring their achievements, we hope to inspire girls everywhere to pursue their passions boldly and realize their limitless potential.”
“I have always drawn inspiration from the powerful women in my life – from my mom, sisters, and daughters to the dolls in my toy box growing up,” said Serena Williams, Tennis Legend and Entrepreneur. “Now, I’m thrilled to be honored alongside this incredible group of female changemakers as part of the Barbie Dream Team. Just like so many women have empowered me to turn my fear into courage and doubt into confidence, I hope we can do the same by championing girls everywhere to pick up a racquet, become an entrepreneur, or do whatever ignites their passion and brings their dreams to life.”
