Barbie vs. Bratz: CBS Studios acquires TV rights
CBS Studios has acquired the rights to a TV series inspired by You Don't Own Me: How Mattel V. MGA Entertainment Exposed Barbie's Dark Side.
The book was previously published in 2018 and tells the parallel stories of Barbie creator Ruth Handler, Bratz creator Carter Bryant and the dispute between Mattel and MGA Entertainment. It was written by University of San Diego law professor Orly Lobel.
Barbie vs. Bratz: The show
The show would depict the genesis of both dolls. Bratz embodies, the rival of American Barbie and originated, in a hiatus from Bryant's job at Mattel, in which he created outfits for Barbie. He later sold his concept to rival company MGA while back at Mattel. The incident sparked a decades-long legal battle. It would also highlight the decades-long cultural impact Barbie had on both young girls and the toy industry and the cultural revolution that Barbie sparked, including the backlash that revolution has caused over the years, and takes a behind-the-scenes look at the toy industry.
