Beyblade Craze drives toy sales in Hong Kong and Taiwan
Beyblade spinning tops are enjoying a major revival in Hong Kong and Taiwan, with growing interest from both children and adults. The latest wave of popularity has been fuelled by social media, childhood nostalgia and the growing “kidult” trend.
Sales in Hong Kong have risen at least tenfold since April, according to Gilbert Law, general manager of the toy’s sole agent in Hong Kong and Macau. Demand has grown across elementary school children, young people and adults, with retailers struggling to keep up with demand.
The latest generation, Beyblade X, launched in 2023 but gained renewed attention after a viral social media post in February sparked discussions about the toy. Fans are drawn to the customisable spinning tops and the fast-paced battles, which can bring together players across different generations.
Beyond entertainment, the physical game is also being used by therapists in Hong Kong care homes to support hand-eye coordination, hand function and grip strength. Players say the face-to-face battles also offer a way to reduce stress and build new friendships in an increasingly digital world.
