BTHA promotes benefits of Play on UN International Day of Play
The British Toy & Hobby Association (BTHA) is marking the United Nations International Day of Play with a social media campaign promoting the importance of play for children’s health, well-being and development.
Sharing the campaign
As part of the initiative, the BTHA is encouraging toy industry members, businesses and organizations to share a campaign video highlighting its Make Time 2 Play program and free app, which provides families with hundreds of play ideas, activities and information on the benefits of play. The campaign, established more than 15 years ago, aims to encourage more play in children’s daily lives.
The video is being promoted across platforms including Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn using the hashtags #MakeTime2Play and #InternationalDayOfPlay.
The role of toys in supporting children’s play experiences
Speaking at a BTHA event in Parliament earlier this week, Director General Roland Earl emphasized the role of toys in supporting children’s play experiences and reiterated the association’s commitment to raising awareness of the benefits of play throughout the year. He said the Make Time 2 Play campaign was created to highlight the positive impact of play on children and families and to provide free resources that encourage play despite increasingly busy lifestyles.
According to Earl, play can sometimes be overlooked despite its importance in bringing people together, supporting physical activity and contributing to broader social well-being. Through the campaign, the BTHA hopes to remind families of the value of making time for play and reinforce the message that every day should include opportunities for play.
