Children products involved: U.S. CPSC recall analysis

Intertek’s Q1 2025 Consumer Product Recalls Analysis shows that product recalls remained high in both the United States and Canada, with safety concerns affecting a wide range of industries. In the U.S., the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued 99 recall notices between January and March 2025, while Health Canada reported 64 recalls.

Children products involved

In the U.S., the largest number of recalls involved sports and recreation products, appliances, furniture, and children’s products. Common hazards included fire, burns, choking, ingestion, falls, suffocation, entrapment, and electrocution. Toy recalls were linked to loose magnets and choking hazards from small parts. Several nursery and childcare products were also recalled because they failed to meet federal safety regulations.

Major concerns

Health Canada identified similar risks, particularly in children’s apparel, nursery products, furniture, and footwear. Major concerns included flammability, suffocation, falls, entrapment, and inaccurate safety labeling. Canadian authorities also reported recalls related to microbial contamination and failures to meet child-resistant packaging requirements.

The report highlights growing regulatory attention on product safety and emphasizes the importance of compliance with safety standards to reduce risks for consumers and avoid costly recalls.
