Coca-Cola: backlash for AI generated Christmas commercials
Coca-Cola is currently facing heavy criticism on the internet for its Christmas commercial. The reason for the discontent is the use of AI for the second time in a row. The company has teamed up with two AI studios to produce two “refreshed” versions of the “Holidays are Coming” commercial.
According to Coca-Cola, “these commercials push the boundaries of technical precision, cinematic storytelling, and production quality.” Many viewers see things differently and were unimpressed by the production. This is reflected in the comments on Coca-Cola's YouTube video.
“A year of AI development later, it still looks terrible,” wrote one.
Another commented, “Remember when they paid real animators to make commercials with heart? Now it's soulless AI.”
One comment even went so far as to joke, “Best Pepsi commercial I've ever seen.”
One reason for the discontent is probably due to the fact that, for many people, the Coca-Cola commercial has been a Christmas tradition for years, heralding the start of the festive season.
