Continuous increase in spending on video games in the U.S.

According to Circana, total U.S. video game spending in August 2023 was $34.9 billion, up 2% from 2022.

Growth in content and accessory spending

In August 2023, U.S. consumer spending on video game content, hardware and accessories totaled $4.2 billion, up 3% from August 2022.

Growth in both content and accessory spending offset a double-digit percentage decline in hardware spending.

PlayStation 5 beats Xbox Series

While video game content spending increased 4% year-over-year to a total of $3.7 billion in August 2023, video game hardware spending decreased 13% year-over-year to $328 million.

The PlayStation 5 was the top-selling hardware platform in August 2023 in both unit sales and revenue. The Xbox Series revives second place in both categories.
