COO Richard Dickson to leave Mattel Inc. 

Mattel, Inc. announced that Richard Dickson, president and chief operating officer, will leave the company effective Aug. 3, 2023. 

 

Dickson led a global business transformation that revitalized Mattel's iconic brands including Barbie, Hot Wheels and Fisher-Price, and he was instrumental in returning the company to growth. 

 

Meanwhile, Gap Inc, the largest apparel company in the U.S., announced that its board of directors has appointed Richard Dickson as president and chief executive officer of the company, effective Aug. 22, 2023. 

 

Dickson has led a portfolio of global brands as president and COO at Mattel Inc. and was responsible for innovation strategy, design and development, brand marketing and franchise management. 

Under his leadership, the company developed and launched the Mattel Playbook, an approach to brand building that has been instrumental in growing Mattel's Power Brands and accelerating Mattel's transformation.

 

Mattel Inc. has appointed Lisa McKnight executive vice president and chief brand officer, a role in which she is responsible for all Mattel toy categories and global brands, as well as design and development. 

Josh Silverman has been promoted to executive vice president and chief franchise officer. His role has expanded to include leadership of digital games and licensed entertainment, 

in addition to global consumer products, publishing, promotions and location-based entertainment, and franchise management. 

Both executives will assume Dickson's responsibilities and report to Ynon Kreiz, Mattel chairman and chief executive officer. 

The company has also promoted Chris Down to executive vice president and chief design officer, reporting to McKnight.
