Disney Jr. Canada And Disney XD Canada To Shutdown On September

Corus Entertainment has announced that Disney Junior Canada and Disney XD Canada will cease operations on September 1, 2025, as part of a broader withdrawal from several children’s TV channels due to ongoing financial challenges. The decision comes as Canadian children increasingly turn to digital platforms like YouTube, Netflix, and Disney+ for their entertainment, reducing the demand for traditional linear television.

In addition to Disney Junior and Disney XD, Corus will also discontinue ABC Spark, Nickelodeon, and Disney French (La Chaine Disney) in Canada. However, the company will continue to operate other popular channels, including Disney Channel, Teletoon, Nelvana, Boomerang, YTV, Treehouse, and Cartoon Network.

With this move, only Disney XD U.S. and Disney XD Poland will remain as linear Disney XD networks worldwide, reflecting Disney’s global strategy to focus on streaming and digital content. For Canadian viewers, the shutdown means a shift toward on-demand and streaming services for children’s programming, with Disney+ and other platforms expected to fill the gap left by the departing channels.
