Disney reportedly discontinuing Blu-ray and DVD releases in Australia
Disney continues to pursue the path toward phasing out physical releases of movies.
According to reports, the next step is to stop selling Blu-rays and DVDs in Australia and New Zealand.
An Australian broadcaster has addressed the plan in its reporting, stating that the reason is the declining sales of physical media, whereas streaming is enjoying increasing popularity. Due to the often rapid release of movies on streaming platforms, many consumers would have already subscribed to streaming services like Disney+ because of the wide selection of exclusive content offered there.
So far, it has only been confirmed that Disney's elimination of Blu-rays and DVDs will only apply to Australia and New Zealand.
No plans are known yet for other regions.
