Educational Insights and Brady Smith launch new creative activity kits
Educational Insights has announced two new creative activity kits developed in collaboration with author and illustrator Brady Smith: the Graphic Novel Kit and Character Design Studio. The products are designed to give children hands-on tools to create their own characters, comics, and stories.
The artwork
Smith, known for children’s graphic novel series including Louie and Bear, and Maxwell Dark, contributed original artwork to the kits. The collaboration combines basic principles of character creation and visual storytelling with hands-on creative activities. The products are intended to encourage children to develop ideas, build confidence and explore their own characters and stories.
Aimed at children aged seven and older
The Graphic Novel Kit, aimed at children aged seven and older, provides tools for creating graphic novels and comic books. It includes a light-up tracing board, more than 400 traceable images across 25 sheets, 32 drawing pages featuring panels and scenes, five coloured pencils, and writing prompts. Children can trace characters, objects and expressions and then add their own details, dialogue and artistic style.
12 double-sided character plates
The Character Design Studio focuses on creating original characters. The set includes 12 double‑sided character plates that can be combined to create more than 512 different designs. Children can then transfer their creations onto paper and customise them. The kit also contains a design tray, 30 sheets of paper, a black rubbing crayon with holder and four coloured pencils.
Encouraging children to express themselves
Lisa Guili, Vice President and General Manager of Educational Insights, said the collaboration is intended to provide children with tools and inspiration to express themselves, explore their ideas and create their own stories. According to the company, the partnership reflects its focus on creativity, confidence and hands-on learning through play.
