Eight million packages of toys seized in the EU
In confiscations carried out since last Christmas and the holiday season, authorities have removed several million packages of illegal toys from circulation in the EU. The 8.2 million packages had a total value of 8.7 million euros, according to Europol. The majority of the toys posed health risks and were not correctly labeled.
According to the information provided, nearly 20 countries – from the EU as well as Albania, Colombia, and Serbia – participated in the joint customs and police operation, which was coordinated and supported by Europol and the EU anti-fraud agency OLAF.
Most counterfeit products come from China
According to the report, school supplies and board games topped the list of seized products in terms of both quantity and value during the latest operation. According to Europol, most counterfeit toys on the EU market come from China.
Previous years
In previous years, German authorities had also participated in the operations. Most seizures, totaling 19 million, took place between 2022 and 2023. According to the report, they were worth 79 million euros.
