"Elemental" is not performing well at the box office

"Elemental", Pixar's latest film, has performed the lowest at the box office of any Pixar film in the company's modern history.

With a budget of $200 million, the $29.6 million opening weekend box office result so far is not what the studio had hoped for.

Pixar has already struggled to excite audiences with its new releases in the recent past.

Already "Lightyear," a long-awaited spin off of the best-selling "Toy Story," earned only $226.4 million worldwide.

If "Elemental" doesn't hold up in the coming weeks against strong competition like "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," which not only wowed moviegoers but critics as well, "Elemental" could be a loss for Pixar.

It remains to be seen in which direction the events at the box office will develop further.
