EU: Plans for stricter oversight for ChatGPT and Roblox
The European Commission is reportedly preparing to subject ChatGPT and Roblox to stricter oversight under the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA). Both services appear to have exceeded the user threshold that would qualify them as “Very Large Online Platforms” or “Very Large Online Search Engines”, making them subject to additional regulatory obligations.
If officially designated, they would be required to comply with stricter transparency, risk‑assessment, and content‑moderation rules. This includes identifying and mitigating systemic risks, increasing accountability, and meeting enhanced reporting requirements. The move would place ChatGPT and Roblox under the same regulatory framework as other major digital platforms already covered by the DSA.
