EU Tariff leads to decline in small shipments from China

The European Union’s new import tariff on small shipments from China appears to be having a significant impact on cross-border deliveries.

Since July 1, the EU has imposed a €3 customs duty on small consignments worth less than €150. According to figures cited in the report, the number of such shipments from China to the EU has fallen by around 30 to 40 percent since the measure was introduced.

The new tariff is intended to address the growing volume of low-value goods entering the European market and to create fairer competitive conditions for businesses within the EU.

The decline suggests that the additional costs associated with the new customs rules are already affecting the flow of inexpensive goods from China to European consumers.
