Free racquets for 5000 kids at AO26 Opening Week
During the Australian Open Opening Week from 12–16 January 2026, 5,000 new Hot Shots Tennis racquets were given away to children. Young fans collected the free racquets at the Fan Stage on Grand Slam Oval across two daily sessions, adding value for families and inspiring the next generation of players.
Encouraging healthy habits
Australian Open Tournament Director Craig Tiley highlighted the importance of introducing children to tennis early to encourage healthy habits and a lifelong love of the sport. The initiative was supported by professional players, who joined on-stage Q&A sessions and personally handed out racquets to the first 25 children at each session.
Children registered for a free racquet upon arrival at Melbourne Park, with clear signage and QR codes guiding the process. The giveaway formed part of Tennis Australia’s broader commitment to growing grassroots participation.
Free entry for kids
Opening Week, presented by Herald Sun, opened the entire AO precinct from day one for the first time and featured affordable family tickets, free entry for kids on Monday, and a wide range of tennis, music and family-friendly activities.
