Game of Thrones movie now has a working title

Warner Bros. is moving forward with its first theatrical film set in the world of Game of Thrones, currently using the working title Aegon’s Conquest. The project will focus on the rise of Aegon I Targaryen, the ruler who united the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros and established Targaryen dominance.

The screenplay is being written by Beau Willimon, known for his work on House of Cards and Andor. The film is still in early development, and no director or cast members have been announced so far.

Expanding the franchise

This movie is part of Warner Bros.’ broader plan to expand the franchise beyond television, building on the success of House of the Dragon and other upcoming spinoffs. Unlike the original series, the story will take place long before those events, exploring a key chapter in Westeros history.

A release date has not yet been confirmed, but the film is expected to arrive sometime in 2027 or later. The title may also change as development continues.
