Gamescom 2023 reports 320,000 visitors

With 320,000 visitors on site and record digital reach, Gamescom 2023 is up significantly from last year.

The official final report of Gamescom 2023 shows a figure of 320,000 visitors for the Cologne video games fair, who arrived from over 100 countries.

By comparison, the previous year saw 265,000 attendees, while the pre-pandemic Gamescom 2019 ended with a previous record of 373,000 visitors.

In 2020 and 2021, Gamescom was held purely digitally.

Three of the four regular public days - Friday, Saturday and Sunday - were completely sold out.

There was a significant increase in trade visitors in particular, whose number rose to 31,000 - an increase of 25 percent.

From Wednesday to Sunday, more than 1,200 exhibitors presented new products at the exhibition center. The gross exhibition area was 230,000 square meters for the first time.

According to the organizers (Koelnmesse and the Game Association), the livestream offering recorded more than 180 million views - 20 million of them alone for the two-hour Gamescom Opening Night Live show, produced and hosted by Geoff Keighley.

Koelnmesse CEO Gerald Böse: "Gamescom is and remains the world's largest games event. But not only the numbers speak for us:

Returning Nintendo not only convinced the community again with its own booth on site, but also the jury of the Gamescom Award and directly secured several trophies.

Microsoft showed the biggest Xbox booth ever and won the 'Gamescom Green Studio of the Year' award. And companies like NetEase joined us in the Entertainment Area for the first time ever with a booth."

These developments, he said, underscore the international importance of Gamescom and thus the attractiveness of Cologne as a location.

Industry association managing director Felix Falk: "Gamescom 2023 has taken another big leap forward: it is bigger, more diverse and more international than ever before.

New partners from the streaming sector such as Netflix or Disney+ have contributed to the increased diversity, as has the largest Indie Area in Gamescom's history or the further expanded offering for content creators."

The date for Gamescom 2024 has already been set: August 21-25, 2024 - Gamescom: Opening Night Live is scheduled for August 20, 2024.
