Groom covers wedding costs by selling rare Pokémon Cards

Andrew Braund, a 37-year-old teaching assistant from Dorset, England, made thousands of dollars after selling Pokémon cards from his childhood. He had discovered the collection in an attic and took it to a friend’s trading card shop, initially expecting it to be worth only a few hundred dollars. However, three cards turned out to be far more valuable than he had imagined.

Estimated at around $20,000

The three cards were first estimated at around $20,000, but when they were auctioned, they ultimately brought in $41,000.

One of the cards, a mint-condition Skyridge Charizard Holo, sold for $21,250—well above its estimated value. Another, in near-mint condition, sold for $16,250, also exceeding expectations. The third, a Reverse-Holo version, sold for $3,500, slightly higher than its estimate.

Unexpected earnings

With his wedding planned for August, Braund said the unexpected earnings came at the perfect time and would cover the costs.

The cards were sold through Ewbank's Auctions.
