Holiday season 2025: Customers investments are increasing

The latest findings from Shopify's Global Holiday Retail Report show clear results. Consumers are spending more this Christmas season, but they want value for money, which is particularly important to them. The report highlights four key trends: increased spending, the use of AI when shopping, cross-channel product searches, and the desire for authentic brand experiences.

Price-conscious despite rising spending

Consumers worldwide plan to spend an average of $192 on Black Friday and Cyber Monday this year – an increase of $37 compared to 2024. At the same time, 51 percent are setting clear spending limits, with 23 percent setting even stricter budgets than last year.

Consuments using AI

AI as a shopping assistant: 64% of respondents plan to use AI tools this year – among 18- to 24-year-olds, this figure rises to 84%.

Omnichannel experience

Digital channels remain important, but brick-and-mortar retail is regaining significance. 40% prefer online shopping, while 43% of respondents said they will shop in stores more often in 2025 than in the previous year. The combination of both channels is particularly in demand.

Trust and values as a sales boost

Many consumers specifically seek out locally rooted or value-oriented brands. Discount promotions (49%), free delivery and returns (41%), and loyalty programs (29%) encourage repeat purchases.
