Hollywood strikes: tentative agreement

The screenwriters' union in Hollywood reached a tentative agreement Sunday with major movie studios. It is expected to end one of two strikes that have brought most film and television production to a halt and cost the California economy billions.

“Significant gains (…) for writers”

Before it can take effect, the three-year contract must still be approved by Writers Guild of America (WGA) leadership and union members.

The WGA, which represents 11,500 film and television writers, called the agreement "extraordinary" with "significant gains and protections for writers."

SAG-AFTRA remains on strike

While the WGA's settlement is a milestone, the ongoing strike by the actors' union SAG-AFTRA, which remains on strike, means Hollywood won't be able to go back to business as usual for the time being.
