Lego continues on its successful course in 2023 as well

After a record year in 2022, Lego has also closed the first half of 2023 with a high profit. Below the line, the toy group from Billund, Denmark, posted a net profit of 5.1 billion kroner in the first six months of the year, as the Lego Group announced on Wednesday. Converted, that is over 680 million euros. In the same period last year, however, the figure had been even higher at 6.2 billion kroner. Sales rose slightly by about 1 percent to 27.4 billion kroner (3.7 billion euros) compared to the first half of 2022.

"We are pleased with our performance - especially as it has been a challenging six months for the toy industry," said Lego CEO Niels B. Christiansen. Demand for Lego products has exceeded those in the industry, he said, and Lego's market share has grown significantly. The strong financial position allows the Lego Group to make long-term investments, particularly in digital, sustainability and production, for example, he said.

According to the group, top sellers included product series such as Lego Icons, Lego Star Wars, Lego Technic and Lego City. The Lego brand remains strong, it said, and 89 new Lego stores opened worldwide in the first half of the year. This brings the total number of stores to 988, he added. At the same time, it said, online retailing via its own website and partner platforms had been further strengthened.
