Märklin welcomes new passengers

On the occasion of the Nuremberg Toy Fair, model railway manufacturer Märklin, based in Göppingen, has released figures on its business performance.

Challenging Market Environment

Due to overall economic conditions, Märklin experienced a challenging financial year. Nevertheless, the company remains on a stable track. “Model railways continue to be a popular hobby,” says Florian Sieber, Managing Partner of Märklin. “However, we are seeing greater consumer restraint, as customers plan their spending more carefully in light of the economic situation.”

Revenue for the 2024/2025 financial year amounted to EUR 119.2 million. For the current financial year, Märklin is slightly more optimistic, forecasting revenue of EUR 120.5 million, supported in part by effective strategic production planning at its plants in Göppingen and Győr.

Investments in Production and Technology

In 2025, Märklin invested significantly in the development of numerous new products. Additional investments focused on the following projects:

Göppingen plant:

  • New CNC machining center

  • CNC sinker EDM machine

  • New plant technology for electroplating

  • New IT systems, including the migration to SAP S/4HANA and the implementation of a product information management system

Hungary plant:

  • New CNC milling machine

  • Investment in new CNC painting machines, including digital printers for color application

  • New heating system using air-source heat pump technology for three assembly halls

Successful New Customer Acquisition

Under the slogan “Märklin rocks the rails,” the company launched its first cooperation with one of the world’s most successful bands, AC/DC. Inspired by the Black Ice World Tour, a limited-edition locomotive became a highlight of the Märklin range and sold out quickly.

“This allowed us to successfully reach new customer groups,” explains Florian Sieber, “which was also evident at the legendary Wacken Open Air festival, where Märklin was represented for the first time last summer in the exclusive United Area.” Further initiatives, including Märklin’s Christmas and winter campaigns, also received positive feedback, with effective measures introduced to attract returning hobbyists, children and parents.
