Nearly 1 million visitors attended Hong Kong Book Fair
With nearly 1 million visitors, the 33rd Hong Kong Book Fair was a resounding success for the organizers of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).
The 7-day event was also the venue for the 6th Sports and Leisure Expo and the 3rd World of Snacks, all organized by the same organizer.
Nearly 780 exhibitors from 36 countries and regions demonstrated and exhibited their products and services at the multi-faceted event.
Book Fair visitors, 10% of whom were tourists, spent an average of HK$872, or $112 per person.
Sophia Chong, Acting Executive Director of the HKTDC, said: "We are thrilled to announce the resounding success of this year's Hong Kong Book Fair, Sports and Leisure Expo, and World of Snacks.
The full reopening of Hong Kong has resulted in a surge in participation from citizens and tourists alike, with numerous mainland and overseas authors and exhibitors attending in person (...).
This year's Book Fair, with its focus on Children's and Young Adult Literature, has staged a diverse range of cultural activities and seminars (...)."
Fiction, comics, travel, children's books and literature are the most popular genres
More than 800 visitors took part in a survey designed to provide insights into reading behavior.
According to the results of this survey, an impressive 96% have read a printed book in recent months, with an average reading time of 16 hours. According to the survey, the most popular categories are fiction (52%),
followed by comics (26%), travel (20%), children's books and books for young adults (20%), and literature (19%).
In addition, e-books enjoy great popularity, with 65% of respondents who said they had read an e-book in the last month, with an average reading time of 9 hours.
The majority of visitors (59%) visited the Book Fair to buy new books.
Additionally, 25% joined the diverse cultural activities, with 18% intending to buy children's books.
