NeeDoh becomes latest viral toy craze
NeeDoh, a line of colorful, squeezable collectibles from toy company Schylling, has become the latest viral toy sensation, with demand surging across social media and products selling out both online and in stores.
The toys are filled with a non-toxic, dough-like compound that returns to its original shape after being squeezed. The range has expanded from the original Groovy Glob to include different shapes, characters and fidget-style designs, including the popular Nice Cube.
Although NeeDoh has been available for nearly a decade, searches for the brand have recently reached an all-time high. TikTok videos featuring collections and in-store “hunts” have helped drive the trend, while the affordable price point — most products cost less than $5 — makes the toys easy to collect.
The popularity has also led to counterfeit products. Schylling has warned consumers that NeeDoh products sold through platforms including Temu, Alibaba and eBay are not official. The company recommends buying from physical retailers such as Target, Walmart and Staples.
The surge comes alongside a recent class-action lawsuit in California alleging that NeeDoh products can explode and cause burns when exposed to heat. Schylling has added a warning advising consumers not to heat, freeze or microwave the toys.
