Nintendo Launches “Nintendo Stars” Licensing Subsidiary to Boost Film and Consumer Products

Nintendo has rebranded its WARPSTAR subsidiary as “Nintendo Stars,” a new licensing arm dedicated to expanding the company’s film business and consumer products reach worldwide. The move is designed to support Nintendo’s growing slate of film adaptations, including the highly anticipated CG-animated sequel “Super Mario World” (April 2026) and Sony’s live-action “Legend of Zelda” feature (2027). Nintendo Stars will focus on securing licensees for consumer products, live events, and tie-in video games, aiming to extend the impact of its IPs beyond the big screen.

Previously, WARPSTAR concentrated on the Kirby franchise, but following its full acquisition by Nintendo in April, the unit’s scope has broadened significantly. Nobuto Kuroki, who led WARPSTAR, will continue as president of Nintendo Stars. The subsidiary’s initial efforts will center on building robust licensing programs for Super Mario, Zelda, and potentially an upcoming Donkey Kong film, as indicated by recent trademark filings.

This strategic shift signals Nintendo’s commitment to leveraging its iconic brands across entertainment and merchandise, creating new opportunities for partners in the toy, licensing, and media sectors. By consolidating licensing operations under Nintendo Stars, the company is poised to maximize the global reach and commercial potential of its beloved characters.
