Playmobil introduces free storytelling prompt cards

Playmobil has partnered with children’s author and presenter Maddie Moate and child psychologist Dr Amanda Gummer to launch a free set of Art of Storytelling prompt cards aimed at encouraging creative, screen-free play at home.

The initiative follows a nationwide survey of 2,000 parents and 2,000 children under the age of 10. According to the findings, many families experience what Playmobil describes as the “Imagination Gap”- the challenge children face when they have free time but struggle to start imaginative play on their own.

Providing simple story starters

The prompt cards are designed to provide simple story starters that inspire children to create their own characters, adventures, and mysteries using their toys. Rather than directing the story, each prompt offers a starting point while leaving children free to develop the narrative themselves.

Exploring, creating, and playing

Maddie Moate said that while screens have an important place in modern family life, some of the most memorable experiences happen when children are exploring, creating, and playing independently. She noted that a simple prompt can often inspire hours of imaginative play.

Playmobil Country Manager Mitch Levene said the company’s toys have always been intended to give children the freedom to invent their own stories instead of following predefined narratives. He explained that the new prompt cards can be used with both new and existing Playmobil sets to inspire fresh adventures.

Free of charge

The Art of Storytelling prompt cards are available free of charge as a digital download and in participating stores, with the aim of helping families turn everyday moments of boredom into creative storytelling and imaginative play.
