Pokémon 30th anniversary drives strong demand at Menkind
Menkind stores across the UK have seen strong customer demand following the launch of a commemorative Pokémon merchandise range celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary.
More than £250,000 in sales
According to the retailer, the collection generated more than £250,000 in sales during its first two hours of trading. Fans turned out across the country to secure anniversary products, collectibles and other Pokémon merchandise.
Some customers arrived as early as 5am, with particularly long queues reported at the Liverpool One store ahead of opening.
Several Menkind locations recorded unusually high levels of footfall and transactions, with some stores reporting first-hour takings up to 20 times higher than their typical levels. Across the UK, the retailer expects Pokémon-related sales to be five times higher than during the same period last year.
Exceeded expectations
Rob Newman, Director of Retail at Menkind, said the response to the anniversary range had exceeded expectations. He highlighted strong demand across a broad range of products, including trading cards, collectibles, plush toys, and gifts.
Pokémon Trading Card Game products were among the leading sellers, alongside collectible figures featuring characters such as Pikachu, Charizard, and Eevee. Plush toys, premium collector items, and limited‑edition anniversary products also proved popular, with some items selling out within hours of launch.
Menkind expects demand to remain strong as the 30th anniversary celebrations continue. The retailer is preparing for further stock deliveries over the coming weeks to replenish popular products.
