Ravensburger acquires strategic stake in Steiff
Ravensburger AG has acquired a strategic stake in Margarete Steiff GmbH, marking a partnership between two of Baden-Württemberg’s most established toy manufacturers. Steiff will continue to operate independently from its headquarters in Giengen an der Brenz.
Known for quality and strong emotional appeal
Ravensburger CEO Clemens Maier described Steiff as one of the toy industry’s most respected brands, known for its quality and strong emotional appeal. He highlighted the shared values of both companies, referencing their long-standing commitment to creating products that resonate with generations of consumers.
The stake was acquired from Steiff Beteiligungsgesellschaft, which is owned by the heirs of company founder Margarete Steiff. According to Managing Director Frederik Reimann, the family sought a partner that understands and respects Steiff’s brand heritage, values, and history while providing a long-term perspective for the company.
The continued development of the Steiff brand
Steiff CEO Frank Rheinboldt said the partnership would support the continued development of the Steiff brand, help unlock international growth opportunities, and combine the company’s tradition with new impulses for the future. Maintaining the independence of the Steiff brand and preserving its Giengen location were key conditions for the family, which will continue to retain a significant shareholding.
Founded in 1880, Steiff and Ravensburger, founded in 1883, share a commitment to quality, responsibility, strong brands, and sustainable business practices. Ravensburger will contribute its international industry expertise, while Steiff will continue to focus on its identity as a premium brand with a strong craftsmanship and heritage tradition.
The transaction remains subject to regulatory approval. Both parties expect the required antitrust clearance to be granted within the standard review period.
