Recent updates for infant bed guards and baby strollers in Japan
Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has designated infant bed guards and baby strollers as products subject to mandatory safety regulations under the Consumer Product Safety Act. The move follows a number of serious accidents involving these products and aims to strengthen consumer protection.
Specific technical safety standard
Under the new rules, manufacturers and importers will be required to comply with specific technical safety standards and obtain certification before selling these products in Japan. Approved products must carry the mandatory PSC safety mark to demonstrate compliance with Japanese regulations.
The updated requirements are intended to reduce risks such as falls, entrapment, and suffocation, particularly for infants and young children. Companies selling these products in Japan are advised to review their compliance procedures and ensure that future products meet the new standards before entering the market.
