Record sales for japanese market

The Japanese toy market surpassed 1 trillion yen ($7 billion) for the first time in the fiscal year that ended in March.

According to an industry association spokesman, that's partly due to solid demand from foreign tourists for products featuring anime characters and franchises such as Pokemon.

The increase is comprised of sales from a variety of categories. First, sales of card games, stuffed animals, model vehicles, among others, totaled 952.5 billion yen.

Which, according to the Japan Toy Association, represents an increase of 6.7% over the previous year.

Sales of miniature toys sold in plastic capsules from vending machines totaled 61 billion yen, up 35.6%. Toys targeting adults, also increased in the completed fiscal year.
