Sesame Street’s Elmo X Account Hacked

Sesame Workshop confirmed that hackers compromised Elmo's verified X account, posting antisemitic messages to the beloved character's 650,000 followers. The "disgusting" posts called for the extermination of Jewish people and made derogatory comments about US President Donald Trump.

The attack occurred on Sunday, with multiple offensive posts appearing in quick succession. Hackers also demanded the release of Jeffrey Epstein files and made racist statements completely contrary to Sesame Street's values of kindness and inclusion.

This incident highlights growing cybersecurity concerns for children's entertainment brands on social media. Elmo, a cornerstone character teaching kindness since the 1980s, has maintained an active X presence since 2012, making this breach particularly damaging to the brand's reputation.

Response and Recovery Sesame Workshop immediately worked to restore account control and remove all offensive content. The organization emphasized that an "unknown hacker" was responsible, distancing the beloved character from the harmful messages.

This breach underscores the vulnerability of high-profile children's brand accounts and the importance of robust social media security measures in the toy and entertainment industry.
